Why Guatemala?
There are plenty of needy people in our own country. Why do you focus on Guatemala?
Indeed, there are needy people in our own communities, and we as individuals help out in our own hometowns as well. However, there are social services available for those who live in developed countries such as the United States and Canada. All poverty is not equal. The level of necessity is so much greater in Guatemala. The Maya in particular are marginalized and bear the scourge of widespread discrimination. We want to extend our hand in friendship in order to alleviate suffering, provide educational support, and offer a “leg up” so the people can improve the quality of their own lives.
